Fire Prevention celebrated with Open House, visits

Fire open houseAn open house in celebration of Fire Prevention Week will be held Sunday, Oct. 5 at the firehouse, 28 Maple St., from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The activities include:

  • Fire extinguisher training will provide an opportunity to tackle home kitchen fires.
  • Home escape plans
  • Knox promotion – Do you know about Knox boxes and how they can help protect your home?
  • 911 house numbers – Do you have your 911 house number prominently displayed?
  • Smoke detector/CO detector promotion
  • KVFD apparatus will be on display
  • New members are always welcomed. Come learn about how to join KVFD.

Refreshments will be offered.

In honor of Fire Prevention Week, KVFD members will also be visiting the local schools in the upcoming week.

  • On Tuesday, firefighters and Kent Fire Marshal Stan MacMillan will be at Kent Center School.
  • On Wednesday (Oct. 8), firefighters will be instructing youngsters at both the Kent School Early Learning Center and the Kent Community Nursery School on how they can prevent fires and stay safe.
  • On Thursday, a similar program will be presented to students at the Kent Children’s Center.
