Join KVFD

The Kent Volunteer Fire Department is recruiting new emergency members.

The department is in need of emergency members to join and serve the town. Members can choose to become certified in the following areas: firefighting, emergency medical services (an EMT), driving trucks, operating pumps, directing traffic (fire police), as well as search and rescue.

To be eligible for emergency membership, someone must meet the following requirements: be 18 years old, live or work in or near the town of Kent, be of good moral character, pass a physical exam and be willing to carry out the purposes of the fire department, which means to preserve and protect life, limb and property from fire and other hazards.

KVFD continues to struggle to fill crews on the ambulance. There is a minimum of two people needed each time the ambulance is requested by 911 – a driver/EMR/ or EMT and an EMT. In order to become an emergency medical technician, a person must take a 160-hour certification class that is offered in a variety of locations around the state.  Training expenses are reimbursable after six months of active membership in the Kent Volunteer Fire Department.
