Kent Volunteer Fire Department hosted both the Stuff-A-Truck and Parade of Lights on the same day, Saturday, Dec. 13, 2014.
The volunteers held Stuff-A-Truck to collect items to make the holidays a bit brighter for those less fortunate in the Kent community. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., toys and non-perishable food were collected for the Kent Santa Fund and the Kent Food Bank. Residents were encouraged to stop by the firehouse at 28 Maple Street and drop off an unwrapped toy or food item.
Main Street was lit up for the holiday season thanks to visiting fire departments and KVFD for the Parade of Lights. Trucks lined up on the Kent Green at 5:30 p.m. and began moving at 6, heading south on Main Street and then turning on Maple Street (Route 341) to finish at the KVFD firehouse.
The Parade of Lights has been a recent addition to the holiday festivities in Kent. Many participants add music to the lights adorning their vehicles. In the past, there have been many Santas in attendance and many were throwing candy to children waiting along the roadside.
