The KVFD is a 501c3 not-for-profit organization registered as a Public charity with the CT Department of Consumer Protection.  We are fortunate that part of our operating budget is supported by the Town through an annual grant, and the purchase of our fire apparatus, which is part of the Town capital plan. 
While this funding is so important, it is only a small portion of the +$500,000 annual operating budget.  To make up the difference, we bill for ambulance transports, hold fundraisers, and are always in search of grant opportunities.  Our annual Firemen's Ball, Golf Tournament and Annual Appeal letter are a few of the many fundraisers we hold throughout the year.   
The work of planning and organizing fundraisers and writing grants are done by the very same people who respond to your homes when you have a medical emergency or fire.  This spreads our responders thin and unfortunately effects our rate of "member burnout", or the number of years of service a member is actively fulfilling our primary mission to protect the citizens of Kent. 
We rely on your donation to help fill these financial gaps, which in the long run enables our responders to focus their years in the KVFD on responding to calls, instead of making pancakes (which we do really love to do!).
